Sometimes when I’m watching a movie just to kill time, I’ll put on one of my old favorites, thinking, “Well, I’ll just listen and not pay too much attention.” Very often, things in the film will hit me over the head and remind me why I love it.
I’m doing a double shift at the ol’ Video Vault tonight, and that was the case with Star Wars (ANH) and Empire Strikes Back. Especially poignant moments:
- Luke walking into the Tatooine sunset, looking at the twin suns (this bit)
- The final “award ceremony” scene
- “I love you.” “I know.” (from ESB, not ROTJ)
- “I am your father!” (mostly I try to imagine how shocking that must have been in 1980)
Of course, a major contributor in all of these scenes (especially the first one) was John Williams’ score.
There were others, but I can’t think of them at the moment. Any suggestions?
