Big update no more

Posted on Tuesday February 27, 2007 at 2:22 pm.

So… I think I might have spoken too soon with my earlier post, saying that I got a job.

I did get a job offer, but I should have waited until I heard about the specifics of the job — namely, salary — before I posted about it.

It’s still definitely in the realm of possibility, even probability. I’ll keep you posted.

Small update

A update to the ever-changing list, “Where Patrick might end up next year”: Seattle is scratched off, and Tucson is now near the top. Philadelphia’s there too, but other than that, it’s looking sparse.

And who knew that it was so cheap to live in Arizona? Not I.

Love thy passenger

Man, if this is typical of cab drivers, I’m glad I didn’t ask that one a few weeks ago to turn down/off his crazy crazy crazy evangelical radio program.

Instead, I just sat there and giggled at the crazier parts.

“Hello!”

Call me a corporate shill if you will, but I think that Apple’s iPhone teaser commercial is great. So many great movies identifiable in an instant.

“And Fender Stratocasters”

I have to say, I was not expecting to like Stranger than Fiction, at least not as much as I did.

Yeah, I know, it was Kaufman-lite for a broader audience, but then it was redeemed by having the depth of characters that you don’t see in other “meta” movies.

And it was quite funny. Some of the one-liners were pretty good:

  • “Yes. I am relieved to know that I am not a Golem.”
  • “That answer is inextricably contingent upon the type of life being led… and, of course, the quality of the pancakes.”
  • “You’re never too old to go to Space Camp, dude.”
  • “Unfortunately, this guitar said, ‘When I get back to Georgia, that woman gonna feel my pain.’”
  • “I can’t die right now. This is really bad timing.”

There were others I can’t remember. It’s more difficult to transcribe when laughing.

And seeing “Buster” laughing at the end over a Space Camp brochure made me really miss Arrested.

It’s not the last panel

Catch the Extras reference in today’s “Get Fuzzy”.

The Truth (with jokes, probably)

Awesome: Al Franken enters Minn. Senate race.

It would be worth it to work at Medtronic (in Minneapolis/St. Paul) just to vote for him in 2008.

Ruined at the end

Tonight’s episode of House? So good.

Until the last two minutes.

That is all.

“Not Rated” for a reason

Posted on Monday February 12, 2007 at 4:07 pm.

I just watched This Film Is Not Yet Rated, a documentary about the MPAA and movie ratings.

Very informative, even if you’ve already noticed the obvious problems with movie ratings. It really doesn’t miss a beat, though I feel I should mention that it shows several scenes that were cut to get a lower rating.

(I only mention that because I put it on at the Video Vault in the middle of the day, but quickly turned it off. There were children present!)

We’re not gonna take it

Now you people know (I hope) that I normally wouldn’t give two shits about an award for country music. But I flipped briefly to the Grammys tonight and saw the Dixie Chicks winning one of their three statues of the night.

When I heard what their nominated song was a few days ago, I looked closer at the timeline of their “controversy”. It’s nice to see that even in bastions of flag-waving ultrapatriotism like country music, there are a few stalwart reasonable people.
