I’d make the switch

IPTV from AT&T on Apple TV? If it’s true — and if it’s in HD — I’d use it in a heartbeat.

(Assuming that it contains the full diversity of my TV needs, of course…)

And the topic of IPTV did come up at the D Conference, though I can’t remember if it was Mossberg or Steve Jobs who mentioned it.

Mac vs. PC— live!

This Engadget recap of a “historic” conversation/interview with Steve Jobs and Bill Gates is quite good. It certainly sounds like they respect each other, even though one focuses on quality and interoperability while the other puts another spoon on a swiss army knife. But I digress.

Someone point me towards the video when it surfaces.

Update:
Now with video (at the bottom of the article).

It’s a very good discussion for people interested in the future of personal technology.

Ohh, that guy

See, this is a good “Top __” list: The 20 Best “That Guys” of All Time.

Actually quite informative— I sure didn’t know Skoda’s real name.

This is an incredible display of protest indeed.

What was UMass thinking when they booked Andy Card for an honorary degree? What was Card thinking when he showed up, despite the planned protests? Hell, what was Card thinking when he couldn’t hear a single person clapping over a chorus of boos?

Damn. I wish we could have put on a welcome like that for James Baker.

I love the great nerdy references in Get Fuzzy.

Come to think of it, there was a funny (but subtler) one in yesterday’s, too.

“To make life important”

Well, add another one to the “TV shows that Patrick realized are great AFTER they’re cancelled” list: Six Feet Under.

I just finished the first season in about 24 hours— 12 episodes, so nothing to sneeze at. (Ah, summer.) I started it to cheer myself up after yesterday’s bad news. Guess that says something about me, trying to lighten my mood with a show about a family of undertakers.

It’s the smartest drama, with some of the best dark humor, I’ve seen in a while. I guess the “dark” part of the humor is unavoidable, given the subject matter. Great characters and actors, too. I did find, however, that as the season went on, it got more serious, with fewer moments where I was laughing while someone onscreen was crying. (And there are a lot of funny-crying moments in a TV funeral home.)

The tone seems a little oddly slanted at times. My love of Rico, a really sympathetic character, turned to shock and hate very quickly. (They better revisit that and either can the character or get him over it. Very odd, and very infuriating.)

On to season two…

News is here.

News flash: Tomorrow (Thursday), I might be hearing from the company with whom I interviewed in Seattle.

Stay tuned.

Update:
Well, I heard. No Seattle in my near future. (I didn’t get an offer.) Now I’m waiting on something here to come through.

Borgesian, no?

Very nerdy humor: why it’s a bad idea to convert pi to binary.

I know I’m not the only one who thought, Library of Babel! upon reading this joke.

No Freudian analysis here

God help us all* when I start blogging my dreams, but I had some bizarre ones while I was in Seattle. I think it was a combination of the small pillows (atrociously tiny! not just thin, but small in all dimensions!), the worrying about my future, and the freakishly cool weather.

(* I say that with the same attitude that rich hipsters wear trucker hats and drink PBR, of course.)

I won’t subject you to it without your consent. Clicking below absolves me of any guilt about sharing and signifies that you won’t make fun of my for acting like an emo kid.

Oh, and I will have a brief report of Seattle. Eventually. Probably.

Strangers with Conan

Amy Sedaris on Conan in one word: Hilarious. In two words: Hilarious and hot. (“Disturbing” is a close third.)

Funny is the new good-looking.

And has anyone else noticed a recent lengthening of Conan’s sideburns? It’s distracting. I feel like Elaine with the “sponge-worthy” guy.
