Running away from the joint

So I IMDb’ed Harold and Kumar for a previous post, and in the search results, I found that the title of their sequel has been changed to Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay.

I LOLed.

Hopefully this won’t continue the trend of sequels with Kal Penn being damn-near-unwatchable. But then, Van Wilder wasn’t that great in the first place.

An excellent idea: Call for a Presidential Debate on Science.

(Thanks to Daniel for pointing this out.)

Tuesday TV talk

Ooh, spooky. This is entry number 666, and occurring on Halloween, no less.

I have to say, I really enjoyed last night’s premiere of Nip/Tuck.

I’d been cooling off to it, especially last season, where the drama just kept. dragging. it. down. But last night’s episode was — dare I say — fun. Reminds me of the early days. And I love the meta-ness of Sean and Christian acting as technical advisers on a plastic surgery drama. And I do like seeing Sean happy. Makes me think that nice guys don’t always finish last.

Also last night, an episode of House. I’ve really been enjoying this season— I think it’s the shakeup of losing his Baker Street Irregulars. Some of the formulaity — which I like, mind you — is gone. And I do like a lot of his new recruits, especially Thirteen and Kal Penn and the idealistic guy. The guest star was really good, I thought— got the point across without overdoing it.

And on that note, I noticed something last night…

Worth it, I guess…

Here’s my question: who would pay 150 euro for this thing?

Naturally, it turned out to be a good purchase — nay, a steal — but still.

It’s quite possible that I’ve posted about this before, but every time I see this guy’s name, you know what I think of? That’s right (scroll down to #5).

Talk dirty to Wii

I broke down and bought Guitar Hero III last night. And then, of course, before I knew it, it was midnight.

I only played GH2 a bit (at the beach a few months ago), so I’m not that great— I’m going through Career Mode on medium right now. And I have to say, with a few exceptions like “Paint It Black” and “Sunshine of Your Love”, I liked the songs on GH2 more. Hopefully there will be some good ones available for download.

Anyone else have it on Wii? I could go for some online play against similarly-skilled (or at least forgiving) players.

Pie time!

New show: Pushing Daisies.

At least, I’m pretty sure I like it… it’s one of those shows that’s a bit difficult to tell about. The dialogue is a bit Gilmore-esque, i.e., fast-paced and over-witty. (NYMag concurs.) Naturally, it’s not as annoying here. But a little magic realism in a primetime comedy-drama is refreshing.

But here’s a thought— if someone dies every minute that one of his zombies is awake, that means he has a fair bit of canine genocide on his hands: nineteen years adds up to about ten million dead dogs, right? (Or is it only the first minute?) And is it only skin-to-skin contact that does it? I don’t want to go into detail ruminating about it, but that does leave certain, er… romantic possibilities.

I’ll catch up on the back episodes and add it to the TiFaux, and keep watching until it annoys me too much to continue. We’ll see.

Yikes, Shatner is scary when he’s bitter.

Awesome: Schizophrenia patients respond to Curb Your Enthusiasm.

The best part? Larry’s response:

Larry David, reached on the telephone in California, said that he hadn’t realized how deeply the awkwardness on his show would affect people. “It just deals with how you’re supposed to behave,” he said. “A lot of the time, it’s just me expressing myself freely. I knew that my own mental health was problematic, but should I be worried? I mean, I blow up, too! Is this something undiagnosed? Do I need to see a clinical psychologist?”

Couldn’t hurt, Larry. I wonder if I could get a paper out of this myself, in my lab…

An NYT contributor advocates mosh pits at Philharmonic concerts.

At least, I think that’s what he’s saying…

(And I think I totally deserve a golf clap for this post title. I giggled to myself, anyway.)
