Viva la revolución

Awesome things are afoot here at work in the BBL.

The story is this: on Tuesday, I met with my PI and at the end, I sort of mentioned in passing (in case he didn’t go for the idea) that I could use a new computer. He said, Sure, that’s an easy decision, not like the path for investigating oscillations that we had be discussing prior. He told me to go see our sysadmin, Larry. What I didn’t say was that I was angling for a Mac. (Our research group inside the BBL is currently the last PC holdout.)

Larry’s a Mac guy too, and he’s been pushing my PI Bruce to Switch (capital “S”) for eleven years. So Larry and I spent the rest of that day and most of yesterday scheming and testing our software in Parallels. Yesterday we learned that not only was Bruce into the idea of giving me the Mac I desired, but he wanted to Switch everyone— six underlings and a junior faculty member. This morning I hear that he even wants to Switch his machine.

Larry says this is major. I feel great pride in helping spearhead this initiative within six months of starting here. In fact, I like to think of myself as a champion of sorts— the Apple equivalent of Simón Bolívar or Rosa Parks. No hyperbole here.

And for this, I think I deserve a Mac Pro. I’m just sayin’.
