By now, you’ve certainly heard that the New York Philharmonic played a concert in Pyongyang (North Korea) over the weekend. Here’s a taste— I can’t wait for PBS to air it in its entirety (Thursday night here).
Here’s my question, though: How does the principal flutist, Robert Langevin, play with such a ridiculous mustache? The picture in his bio doesn’t do it justice— here’s a better one. Who knows, maybe it’s useful; could be the reason that men have traditionally dominated the top flute chairs in U.S. symphonies.
Of course, I know who would have an opinion about that fact… (Though I think she was the one who told me that in the first place.)
