Palin’ in comparison

Posted on Saturday August 30, 2008 at 12:26 pm.

Anyone else get the idea that Sarah Palin is the last straw, that if things stay roughly the same that the election is essentially over?

I wonder if other Republicans refused to be on the ticket, like rats refusing to get on board a leaky ship, lest they sacrifice their own executive aspirations.

Gimme some Skins

Posted on Wednesday August 27, 2008 at 11:35 am.

So, against my better judgment (and any sense of shame), I’ve found myself drawn into an English teen drama called Skins.

It really defies any American comparison, except maybe the O.C., but lower-middle class, and with more drugs and nudity (I assume; I’ve never seen an episode of O.C.).

Just started the second series. Really not that badly-made, and certainly addictive.

Maddow props

Still on iPhone, so no links.

But the star of MSNBC’s convention coverage so far? Rachel Maddow. From “post-rational” to smacking down Pat Buchanan, she’s a smart one. Might just stick around after watching Olbermann to see her new show. Though she’s definitely in her element in a quick-thinking panel debate/discussion.

Fine, one link, but I’m telling you it’s taking forever to type: a good “day in the life” article from the convention.

Update:
Oh. I can edit but I can’t post. I just wasted a lot of time with typing a href=”http://observer.com/2008/media/it-s-a-maddow-maddow-world” on iPhone.

So here’s post-rational, and here’s a Buchanan smackdown, though naturally, Pat misses/ignores the point.

Medical spam I hope

So it turns out that the UPHS network has been listed on Spamhaus, making it impossible for me to post from work. Since that’s when I do my best procrastination, posting volume had decreased.

I will attempt to remedy the problem soon.

Maher: Pope of the nonChristies

Posted on Saturday August 23, 2008 at 8:37 pm.

I found a few clips of Bill Maher on Larry King Live on Tuesday, talking about his upcoming movie (previously), the now-concluded veepstakes, John Edwards, and a few other topics.

A majority of the episode can be found in one form or another on YouTube, but CNN is replaying the episode tomorrow (Sunday) night at 9 and midnight.

Seeing as how I have to return my cable box/DVR on Monday (ugh), looks like I’m going to be staying up to watch it (and the Criminal Intent season finale).

Gone off without a Hitchens

Posted on Saturday August 23, 2008 at 6:40 pm.

I don’t remember why I was reading a collection of Christopher Hitchens articles (the page was on my screen after I got out of the shower), but I ran across a few good ones, some of which have gotten a fair amount of attention before:

Regarding the Obama New Yorker cover, in which he comes to the same conclusion I did: that the people who normally read The New Yorker got the cartoon (namely, as a pro-Obama one), and the Obamas perhaps could have intimated that they did, too.

Why Obama’s attitude on the surge hasn’t harmed his campaign.

“Believe me, it’s torture”: regarding waterboarding.

Update: An open letter to George W Bush.

I’m certainly ambivalent on Christopher Hitchens, but recent history like these articles has helped his case.

Tae Kwon do’h!

I mean, really. How do you kick a man in a tie and white pants? It’s like going on a violent spree in Boca Raton.

Morning Joe

It’s Biden, as I’m sure you’ve heard.

I got my text message at 3:39 AM. How about you?

(I promptly went back to sleep, and am doing so again now.)

Hypocrisy or short memory?

Bush: “McCain wasn’t tortured.”

Essentially that’s what he’s saying, right? And McCain, unless he’s willing to admit that Yes, the U.S. does torture, is saying the same thing.

I will go in this way

…And find my own way out
I wont tell you to stay
But I’m coming to much more

An incredible musician passed away today.

LeRoi Moore, 1961-2008.

One of his signature solos, “#41″:

(The above is one of my favorite published recordings of this song — it appears on Listener Supported — but see also this version, with Vic Wooten guesting.)
